According to Article 12 of the “Regulations for Use of Taoyuan Metro System”: Unless due to a cause attributable to the TYM, the regulations limit the duration of stays of ticket-holding passengers between entering and leaving a paid area to:
No longer than two hours for entering and leaving different stations;
No longer than 15 minutes for entering and leaving the same station.
Passengers holding tickets that stay inside the station over the aforementioned maximum time limit will be charged the minimum single-journey fare as a timeout handling fee in addition to the fare payable. In the case of a special situation (such as using the toilet in the paid area or the passenger leaving the station immediately after entering the station, there is no fact of train-riding) passengers can contact the station staff for assistance.
If the equipment has printed a receipt or a statement, please keep it and hand it to the station staff who will assist in processing your case.
If you do not meet the conditions and eligibility for an on-site refund, please fill out the "Ticket Card Handling Sheet" available at all Station Information Counters. The station staff will assist with the post-processing.

The fare collection gate system adopts an automatic sensitivity control design. When the passenger places his ticket card on the sensing area, the gate is automatically opened and the passenger can pass. Children under 115 cm tall can pass the gate with the adult but children need to enter the passage in front of the adult. Then, the adult passes the gate with the child after placing the ticket card on the sensing area. Do not allow children to enter the passageways behind adults, because if they are too far away from adults they may be blocked or hit by the door shields.
When using a credit card to pass the gate, is the ticket sensor area at the metro gate similar to the electronic ticket sensor area? When using a credit card or an electronic ticket to go through the metro gate, there are two different areas on which to place your card or ticket. Holders of a credit card, kindly place it on the " Bank Card Contactless ", while if you hold an electronic ticket, place it on the "IC Card and Single-Journey Ticket Token Sensor". Refer to the illustration for details.
Does the single-journey ticket need to be placed on the ticket sensing area and placed in the Automatic Gate before leaving the station? When using a single-journey ticket to exit the station, you must first place the token on the ticket sensing area of the gate and then place it in the token slot as soon as possible. The gate will then open and you may then exit the station. If the sensor is not induced completely or if there is no induction, the gate will not open. It is recommended that when using a single-journey ticket to exit the station, first place the token on the sensing area of the gate, then drop the token into the slot for the flaps to open and exit the station.
Only VISA, Mastercard, JCB Contactless Credit Cards (and Debit Cards) and UnionPay Card with icon printed on their surface can be used on the sensor to pass the metro gate.
NFC-enabled mobile devices (such as mobile phones, smartwatches, etc.). binding credit cards can also be used.
What if I want to use the function of a co-branded credit card to pass the metro gate and accidentally touch it on the electronic ticket sensor? Please present your co-branded credit card at the Station Information Counter and the station staff will assist in processing.
Contactless physical credit cards: The same credit card is required to enter and exit the gate.
Use of NFC-enabled mobile devices and mobile payment application services (such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, etc.): Use of the same mobile device and application services (same bound credit card) for entry and exit gates.
When using a credit card to pass the gate, please use the credit card dedicated access gate at each station. Refer to the illustration below for details.
